A Conversation

Out of NOWHERE:

My father: Would you want a cedar blanket chest?  For like when you get married?

Me: For when I get married?  What?  Spit take.

My father: Well, it’s another wood shop class, and Chris is doing it and so and so’s husband is doing it, so the pressure’s kind of on for me to do it.

Me: Do you WANT to build a blanket chest?

My father: I don’t need one, so I’d have to have some one to give it to.

My mother: Oh, I guess you’ll have to get married.

Me: Let me ask you this–would it look like a Harry Potter chest, because that would strongly influence my decision.

My father: No.

Me: COULD it look like a Harry Potter chest?

My father: I’d have to go rogue.
